Residents of the north east will have the opportunity to view the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee in operation when it meets in the Council Chamber of Aberdeen City Council on Monday 10 March 2008
The committee’s meeting is part of its ongoing inquiry into tourism revenue growth. As well as taking evidence from local authorities – Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council – witnesses will include, amongst others, representatives from the local visitor attraction and hospitality sectors.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the committee meeting. To book tickets for the meeting please call the Scottish Parliament’s Visitor Services on 0131 348 5200.
The committee meeting will take place at Aberdeen City Council at 2.00pm and will conclude around 3.30-4.00pm . The meeting will be open to the public.
In addition to other six members, two of Aberdeen ’s local constituency members – Brian Adam MSP and Lewis Macdonald MSP – are members of the Committee and are set to attend the meeting.
Committee convener and Shetland MSP Tavish Scott said:
“Business tourism is an important part of Aberdeen ’s economy and committee members are keen to hear directly from those involved in this area and the tourism sector more generally. We want to hear specifically about the challenges faced in relation to skills, training, quality standards, service levels and leadership and how these may be overcome.
“It is important for our committee to move beyond the central belt, to hear from the tourism sector across Scotland . The Scottish Government’s and the industry’s ambition is to grow tourism revenue by 50% by 2015 and we want to hear from those in the front line who are charged with delivering on this ambitious target.
”We are particularly delighted to be visiting the world-renowned ‘ Granite City ’ during Scotland ’s Tourism Week.”
