Scottish Parliament advertises post of Chair of Scottish Human Rights Commission

From today, the Scottish Parliament is advertising to fill the post of Chair of the Scottish Human Rights Commission.

An independent officeholder, nominated by the Parliament and appointed by Her Majesty The Queen, is sought to lead the Commission which will be established as a result of the Scottish Commission for Human Rights Act 2006.

The Commission will consist of up to four other part-time members who will be recruited later this year.

The Commission’s role will be to promote widespread awareness, understanding of, and respect for human rights; review and recommend changes to any policies or practices of any Scottish public authorities and provide advice and guidance.

The successful candidate will be expected to fill the role for a fixed term of five years with the possibility of renewal for one further four year term.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 29 August with the successful candidate expected to take up appointment in autumn 2007.
