Does Scotland’s regulatory system ensure that care services for older people are providing good quality and appropriate care? This question is key, according to the Health and Sport Committee who launched its inquiry and call for evidence on care regulation today.
The committee inquiry will focus on whether the current regulatory system is picking up on poor quality care services and if the system is appropriate for the regulation, inspection and enforcement of integrated social and NHS care in the community.
Committee Convener Duncan McNeil MSP said: “Our committee inquiry into care regulation is timely given that it has been ten years since the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001. We are keen to examine how robust the legislation is in picking up any shortcomings in care services and whether it takes the views of service users into consideration.”
“We hope that everyone from carers, care service users and their families to organisations like Scottish Care and SCSWIS (Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland) will inform our inquiry by letting us know their views through the call for evidence.”
The Health and Sport Committee will hold a series of oral evidence sessions in September 2011, informed by the evidence received.
