The Presiding Officer, Tricia Marwick MSP, today visited the headquarters of PoppyScotland at New Haig House and the adjacent Lady Haig Poppy Factory.
The visit provided Ms Marwick with an opportunity both to learn more about the wide-ranging work of the charity and to meet some of the veterans, many with disabilities, who were busy hand-assembling poppies and wreaths for the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
The Scottish Poppy Appeal is the only charity to be officially recognised by the Scottish Parliament. The Parliamentary launch of the 2011 Appeal will take place next week, in Holyrood’s Garden Lobby, at a reception hosted by the Presiding Officer.
