Committee visits Barnardo’s service

Barnardo’s support service in Glasgow for childen at risk of sexual exploitation was the focus of a fact-finding visit on Monday 11 June by MSPs from the Public Petitions Committee.

The visit will inform the Committee’s consideration of current petition PE1393 on tackling child sexual exploitation in Scotland.

The Committee met with Safer Choices project staff and practitioners (pictured) and viewed the service DVDs and support materials.

David Stewart MSP, Convener of the Committee, and Angus MacDonald MSP heard from staff on what they think needs to be done to help tackle the problem.

Safer Choices provides support to children and young people aged 18 years and under to identify risk and devise strategies to minimise harm, particularly in relation to sexual exploitation.

The Committee is expected to consider the petition again at a future meeting.
