The record, produced by the National Archives of Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Parliament, marks The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and captures every visit The Queen has made to the Scottish Parliament.

Spanning the Opening Ceremonies of each Session of Parliament, the Riding ceremonies, the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 and the tenth anniversary of the Scottish Parliament, the gift captures the Parliament’s relationship with The Queen over more than a decade.

The Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick MSP said:

“The Queen’s personal affection for Scotland is well known and she has visited our Parliament many times.  I am delighted to present Her Majesty with this record on behalf of the Scottish Parliament to commemorate the historic occasion of the Diamond Jubilee.”

The calligraphy within the thirty-three page, purple leather-bound volume was carried out by Yvonne Holton, Dingwall Pursuivant of Arms and Herald Painter at the Court of the Lord Lyon. The photographs are mounted on pale cream paper and the book tied with Jubilee tartan. A DVD portraying the same visits by The Queen will also be featured on the Parliament’s website from today.

Background

The presentation is part of a series of engagements taking place in Holyrood Week. Holyrood Week celebrates Scottish culture, history and achievement and includes an investiture and garden party at Holyroodhouse.

The Scottish Parliament also marked Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by planting an oak tree in the landscaped area of the Holyrood building and debating a motion congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee in May this year.
