The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment is visiting Aberdeen and Montrose on 9 and 10 November. These factfinding visits form part of the Committee’s scrutiny of the Aquaculture and Fisheries (Scotland) Bill.
The focus for these visits will be freshwater fisheries. In Aberdeenshire MSPs will learn about a £2.5 million scheme designed to mitigate the effects of climate change by establishing native trees over 50 kilometres of riverbank in the River Dee. In Montrose, the Committee will tour a wild salmon fishery and learn how they net wild salmon.
The Committee will also visit Fort William on the 16 and 17 November and will visit a fish farm. The visits with give the Committee a first-hand view of the impact of the legislation on wild and farmed fisheries and will inform the MSPs scrutiny of the bill.
