Privacy and Data Protection
The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (“the SPCB”) is a data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998 and as such and must process personal data according to the requirements of that Act.
Any personal data that you pass to us irrespective of format, will be processed in a way that is lawful and fair. It will not be processed in any way that is incompatible with the principles of the Data Protection Act. It will only be used for the purposes for which you have provided this information. It will only be held onto for as long as necessary for these purposes.
It will not knowingly be passed to a third party for further processing unless we have your consent to do so or we are legally obliged to do so.
Confidentiality
The SPCB has a legal duty to protect the confidentiality of information which we obtain from you in accordance with legislation such as the Data Protection Act.

Privacy
The SPCB respects the rights of its users and does not automatically capture or store personal data from users of the website other than to log the user’s IP address and the nature of the browser used. This information cannot be used to identify individuals. It is used to create summary statistics, which allow the SPCB to assess the number of visitors to the Scottish Parliament website and to identify what pages are accessed most frequently. These statistics are used to help the SPCB make the website more user-friendly.
When users enter the Scottish Parliament website their computers will automatically be issued with 'cookies'. Cookies are text files which identify users' computers to the Scottish Parliament’s server. The Scottish Parliament website then creates "session" cookies to store some of the preferences of users moving around the website, e.g. retaining a text-only preference. Cookies in themselves do not identify individual users but identify only the computer used and they are deleted on departure from the website.
